What is a video screening interview?

A video screening interview is a first-round interview in which every candidate answers the same preset questions by recording a short video, voice or text reply in the browser, on their own schedule. Nobody has to be online at once: the hiring team reviews each transcribed answer later and decides who moves on to a live interview.

In RecRam the screen is a video form. A hiring manager asks each question on camera, the form branches on what the candidate says, and reviewers score answers against the same criteria. Answers are transcribed in 110+ languages.

The screening form

A front desk screen, step by step

This is the hotel hiring demo every new account starts with. Antonio, the general manager, asks each question on video. Candidates who have worked a front desk get a guest scenario; newcomers get a question they can answer well.

Every question and sample answer

Watch mode: nothing you record is saved.

  1. 01

    Welcome

    Front Desk Agent

“Welcome! I'm Antonio, the general manager. Thank you for wanting to join our team.”

  2. 02

Recorded answer · Video, voice or text

    Introduce yourself

“Please introduce yourself, and tell me why hospitality appeals to you.”

A spoken introduction shows what a CV line can’t for a guest-facing role: warmth, pace and how someone talks to a stranger.

  3. 03

    Choice

Do you have hotel or front desk experience?

“Have you worked at a hotel front desk before?”

Yes · No, but customer service · No experience yet

    • “Yes”, “No, but customer service” goes to Handling an upset guest
    • “No experience yet” goes to What makes great service?

The branch keeps the screen relevant without making it longer: each candidate sees one of the two follow-up questions, never both.

  4. 04

Recorded answer · Video, voice or text

    Handling an upset guest

“A guest arrives and their room isn't ready. They're upset. What do you do?”

A scenario shows judgment. A maximum length per answer keeps every reply short enough to compare side by side.

  5. 05

Recorded answer · Video, voice or text

    What makes great service?

“That's okay. In your opinion, what makes a guest feel truly welcome?”

  6. 06

    Choice

    Which shifts can you work?

“Which shifts would work best for you?”

Morning · Evening · Night · Any shift

  7. 07

    Short text

    Which languages do you speak?

“Which languages do you speak? Our guests come from everywhere.”

Facts you will filter on later work best as a short text answer.

  8. 08

    Contact details

    Your contact details

“Wonderful. Leave your contact details, please.”

  9. 09

    End screen

    Thank you for applying

“Thank you for your time. We'll be in touch within a week.”

Recruitment FAQ

A one-way video interview (also called an async video interview) lets candidates record answers to preset questions on their own schedule. There is no live interviewer: candidates answer when it suits them, and the hiring team reviews the recordings later, so nobody has to coordinate calendars.
